American Electric Power deploys Trimble's augmented reality solution for transmission and distribution line visualizations

American Electric Power (AEP) is an investor-owned utility that owns, among other assets, more than 40,000 miles of transmission network and 220,000 miles of distribution network across the U.S. For owners of transmission and distribution (T&D) networks, infrastructure planning is a complex process that relies on being able to visualize how the new infrastructure will affect its environment. Toward improving those visualizations, AEP piloted Trimble's SiteVision augmented reality (AR) system in 2018 and has since rolled out the technology to end users within the company, including a rollout to its Ohio operating division in June 2020.
