Northrop Grumman Aerospace is implementing a multistage vision of unifying manufacturing processes with a "digital thread" of instrumentation, orchestration, and analytics to increase flexibility and efficiency. The company started with data analytics and predictive modeling to connect automation equipment in a high-speed production environment. The solution addresses interconnecting fiber-connected automated machines on the shop floor to deliver up-to-date performance data and real-time machine error predictions. Using this data, operations teams can anticipate and correct adverse events during production. The project is the first of many to realize the company's vision of end-to-end operational and predictive data analytics and modeling.
