Porsche's Taycan: Making the case for why BEV efficiency matters

Tesla's Model S is arguably the most impactful battery electric vehicle (BEV) ever made, demonstrating that electrification can be a mainstream technology and compete with similarly priced internal combustion vehicles. Porsche's recently released Taycan was in many ways a response to that success, sporting nearly identical dimensions and performance, albeit with a heftier price tag. Despite also having a similarly sized battery pack (93.4 kWh compared to the Model S's 100 kWh pack), official testing proved disappointing for Porsche, as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rated the Taycan Turbo as having 201 miles of range – significantly less than Tesla's Model S Long Range, which achieved 373 miles. The Taycan, according to the EPA, is one of the least efficient electric vehicles sold today.
