Total and Sunfire will showcase the integration of a high-temperature electrolyzer in a refinery

Total is one of the world's largest oil and gas companies, with operations across the petro value chain. In October 2019, Total signed an agreement with Sunfire as part of the E-CO2MET R&D initiative to deploy a MW-scale electrolyzer at its refinery in Leuna, Germany, for the demonstration of green methanol production from hydrogen and CO₂. Sunfire develops high-temperature solid-oxide electrolyzers, which the company previously used in another CO₂ utilization project with Audi.
