Ford's new geofence module designed for vehicles operating in strict regulatory environments

Increasingly stringent environmental regulations are leading more and more cities to implement bans or taxes aimed at reducing congestion and, in turn, emissions. These regulations impact not only automakers and consumer choices but also costs for fleet operators. While the use of fully electric vehicles would make it easier to navigate said restrictions, few options are available for customers in the 1-ton van segment or for companies with large operating areas that are concerned about adequate range capabilities and EV charging infrastructure. Starting in the spring of 2020, Ford's new plug-in hybrid vans will offer a solution for fleet owners specifically operating under these conditions, utilizing a geofencing module that automatically switches the vehicles to EV mode when entering low-emission zones.
