Nestlé and Corbion explore algae in plant-based foods

Corbion acquired the assets of TerraVia (formerly known as Solazyme) in September 2017 and Bunge's 49.9% stake in the SB Renewable Oils factory in June 2018. Through the acquisitions, Corbion gained control over three algae production facilities and three algae-based product lines: an aquaculture feed ingredient called AlgaPrime DHA, the Thrive cooking oil, and a whole algal flour branded AlgaVia. Corbion recently committed to developing algae-based ingredients for novel food products with Nestlé, which will contribute expertise on plant-based foods. Nestlé's plant-based portfolio includes dairy alternatives like almond-, coconut-, and oat-based creamers and coffee mixes, and nondairy ice cream as well as meat alternatives.
