Kerry strengthens its foothold in the probiotics space through Ganeden acquisition

Irish food ingredients and flavor company Kerry has gradually expanded into the health and wellness space, building a robust portfolio of nutrition-related products. In 2015, Kerry announced the establishment of the Kerry Health and Nutrition Institute (KHNI), followed by the acquisition of Biothera's Wellmune, a beta-glucan product derived from the cell wall of yeast, which functions as an immune-enhancing ingredient. More recently, it acquired Ganeden (Lux Take: Strong Positive), one of the key players in the functional probiotics space, with an annual revenue of about $25 million.
