ASI and Barrick Gold bring autonomous haul trucks to the U.S.

Although many people think of mining as a traditional industry that would be slow to innovate, challenges like declining ore quality and tight regulations have quickly forced mining companies to modernize. One such modernization, which Rio Tinto has stated is the biggest game-changer for its operations, is autonomous haulage trucks due to the potential financial incentives associated with the improvements in the safety and efficiency of its operations. Rio Tinto and Codelco have been actively deploying autonomous trucks in mines since as far back as 2008. In June 2018, Autonomous Solutions, Inc. (ASI) announced that, in partnership with Barrick Gold, it will be deploying the first U.S.-based mining truck automation program.
