Since the mid-2010s, Turkey has been aggressive in incorporating geothermal into its renewable energy strategy; in April 2018, Turkey’s General Directorate of Renewable Energy (YEGM) announced that the country had already exceeded its geothermal development target set at 1,000 MW by 2023 and set a new goal of 4,000 MW by 2030.
When aiming to harvest geothermal energy, it's important to consider that distinct regions provide varying temperatures, which require different technologies to make use of the available energy. The majority of geothermal sites available provide fluids below 182 °C, requiring binary cycle power plant technology, which uses the geothermal fluid in a heat exchanger to vaporize a second fluid with a lower boiling point.
