ExxonMobil, as well as many oil and gas majors around the world, is actively developing technologies in carbon capture. With rising taxes on CO₂ and intense scrutiny over its role in climate change, the oil and gas industry is under pressure to adopt a proactive approach in tackling its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. ExxonMobil has invested heavily in carbon capture and will launch a new carbon capture research facility in 2019 to accelerate the scale-up of its technologies.
